Lower Trapezius Muscle Attributes

💥Greek trapezoeides, table shaped

The left and right trapezius viewed as a whole create a trapezium in shape, thus giving this muscle it's name

💥 SHAPE: trapezius is a large 🔶kite-shaped

Lower Trapezius Muscle Attributes

💪Action: Contraction of the Lower Trapezius produces:

    🌽Scapular Depression

     🌽Scapular Retraction

💪Synergistic Muscle

🌷Scapular Depression:

          = Latissimus Dorsi

🌷Scapular Retraction:

          = Rhomboids,

          = Middle Trapezius

💪Antagonistic Muscle

🌷Scapular Depression

    =Levator Scapulae

🌷Scapular Retraction:

    =Serratus Anterior,

    =Pectoralis Major

💥💥Upper & Middle Trapezius Muscle Attributes

💪ACTION: Contraction of the Upper and Middle Trapezius produces:

🌷Lateral Flexion

     = (Upper Trapezius)

🌷Neck Extension (working   bilaterally)

🌷Scapular Retraction

   =(Middle Trapezius)

💪SYNERGISTIC MUSCLE

🌷Lateral Flexion:          =Sternocleidomastoid

🌷Neck Extension:

    = Posterior Cervical Group

🌷Scapular Retraction:

           =Rhomboids

💪ANTAGONISTIC MUSCLE

🌷Lateral Flexion:

   ~Contralateral Upper Trapezius

🌷Neck Extension:         Sternocleidomastoid

🌷Scapular Retraction:

 - Serratus Anterior

   -Pectoralis Major

💥Clinical Findings for the Trapezius

 Symptoms:

🌠The most common trigger points in the general population.

🌠Pain on the back and side of neck, top of the shoulder between the shoulder blades, back of the head, behind the ear, angle of the jaw, and temple regions.

💥REFERRED PAIN PATTERNS

1️⃣Upper fibers: pain and tenderness, posterior and lateral aspect of upper neck. Temporal region andangle of jaw.

2️⃣Middle fibers: local pain radiating medially to spine.

3️⃣Lower fibers: posterior cervical spine, mastoid area, area above spine of scapula.
